If there’s any sin that I would commit it must be gluttony. Anything
that involves a food is good. That’s why I love movie about food and
cooking. I watched these three movie in three consecutive days. Different kind
of story line but it’s all about the love and passion of the food.
Final Recipe is South Korean-Thai Drama played by Michelle
Yeoh, Henry Lau and Chin Han. This 2013’s movie and I’ve been looking it for
along time since Henry Lau of Super Junior M, is my fav. But I only found
the movie recently. For this role, Henry was training by a famous chef how to cook. No
wonder his cooking skill in this movie was really impressive.
The storyline is pretty nice, although some part is bit
predictable. I wish they shown more about cooking and the food, and less family
drama. You can see different different Chinese foods are feature, and some
western food as well.
Final recipe is
movie about young man named Mark (Henry Lau) trying to make some fortune by
entering Final Recipe, cooking competition despite his grandfather wishes. He learn how to cook from his grandfather who
own a Chinese restaurant in Singapore and when he was a kid he remembers that his father
always cooked for him. On the final, one
contestant will compete with a famous chef, David Chen.
During the competition Mark managed to impress the famous
chef, Daniel Boulud with his omelet. The grand jury, Julia (Michelle Yeoh)
started make him as his favorite also. The
way he cooked and the taste of food remind Julia about something. After do some
digging, she found out that Mark has a close relationship with his husband,
David Chen.
Imagined you’re doing road trip during summer holiday by
your food truck and selling the food as well. How awesome! That the story of Chef all about. This movie is written & directed by Jon
Favreau whose directed an Iron Man.
Robert Downey Jr, make an small appearance in this movie too.
As the chef in upscale restaurant,Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) hit a rock bottom when the restaurant critic,Ramsay Mitchel, wrote a bad review about his food. He still
has a passion for food but the owner prevent him to improvise and experiment
with the food. Thing getting worse when he learn about Twitter and tweeted a nasty
comment about Ramsey
He quit his job and start to think over about his career.
His former wife, Inez (Sofia Vegara) suggest him to take vacation with
his son, Percy (Emjay Anthony). After
remodeled an old food truck, he began to
travel across America with Percy and Martin (John Leguizamo), his former
sous-chef. They're selling a Cuban sandwich from Miami to Los Angeles, doing a
stop overs in New Orleans and Austin –Texas. This trip not only about selling
food but also made his relationship with his son closer. The relation between Carl and Percy is so
adorable. I really love watching how the
relation growing. As a tech savvy, Percy taught his father about
social media, he also help to documented their trip through social media and cause a lot of buzz. Carl
taught his son all the cooking
technique. There’s plenty of food is being prepared, served and devoured. Definitely mouth watering movie.
While watch this documentary movie, I’m not only hungry but
craving for sushi as well. Jiro: Dreams of sushi is one of the best documentary
movie you should watch. The movie is about life of Jiro Ono, the sushi master
and owner of Sukiyabashi Jiro, a Michelin three-star restaurant in Tokyo Japan.
He’s 91 years old now and still working. This movie was filmed when he was 85 years old. His sushi restaurant is really
famous. Located in Tokyo subway station, people has to make a reservation at
least a month in advance. He only serve for 10 people of roughly 20 course.
It’s cost around 30.000 Yen for one person.
Although this is documentary movie, but you won’t get bored.
Most of us really familiar with sushi but I bet not every one know how the
process of making sushi. Jiro made every process look so great and art-like. His passion
about sushi is unbelievable. He selected
the only best rice, he asked his apprentice to massage the octopus for 45
minute, his older son who also help him run the restaurant went to Tsukiji fish
market himself to pick the best tuna and other kind of fish for sushi. It’s so
fascinating saw how a plate of sushi being prepared with passion and perfection.
